7 Best Synthesia Alternatives for Video Ads in 2026

In short — Synthesia is the best-known AI avatar platform, and it is genuinely excellent at what it was built for: training modules, internal comms, and corporate explainers at scale. It is a poor fit for advertising. Ads need a hook in 1.5 seconds, vertical format, your product on screen, and dozens of variants a month — Synthesia is optimised for a presenter reading polished copy over slides, and is metered in minutes rather than in creatives. If you are running paid social, look at Klaivo, Creatify or Arcads instead. This guide compares 7 alternatives.

Disclosure: Klaivo is our product. We've tried to be fair — every competitor below has real strengths, and all pricing is public and dated. Verify current prices on each vendor's site, as offers change often.

Why look for a Synthesia alternative?

The complaints we hear are rarely about quality. They are about fit:

  1. Minutes are the wrong unit for advertising. Synthesia meters video minutes — the Starter plan is around 10 minutes a month. A performance advertiser doesn't want ten minutes of video; they want thirty 8-second variants to test hooks against. Those are very different products.
  2. The avatar is the ad. Synthesia puts a presenter in front of a background. That works for a course module. For an e-commerce ad, the product has to be the hero, and there is no image-to-video path that keeps your actual item accurate on screen.
  3. No ad structure. You bring the script. Synthesia does not write the hook, apply AIDA or PAS, or think in terms of scroll-stopping first frames — because that was never its job.
  4. Corporate-video pricing. The tier that unlocks meaningful volume sits well above what a small DTC brand spends on creative tooling.

None of this is a criticism of Synthesia. It is a criticism of using a training-video tool as an ad tool.

The 7 best alternatives

1. Klaivo — best for e-commerce product ads

AI agents write the ad script (AIDA or PAS), break it into shots, generate each through the model you pick, add voiceover and music, then edit the ad together. Start from a product URL, a photo, or a description.

  • Best for: DTC brands and media buyers who need product-led creatives at volume.
  • Strength: metered in credits per creative, not minutes — the unit matches how advertisers actually work. Image-to-video keeps your real product on screen.
  • Weakness: no talking-head avatar library. If you specifically need a consistent corporate presenter across 40 training videos, stay on Synthesia.
  • Pricing (as of September 2026): $19/mo (100 credits), $49/mo (260), $99/mo (560). 7-day free trial on Starter monthly. ~15 credits per 5-second shot; ~50 for a complete 3-shot ad from a URL.

2. HeyGen — best like-for-like avatar swap

The closest direct competitor to Synthesia: large avatar library, strong translation and lip-sync, more consumer-friendly than Synthesia's enterprise posture.

  • Best for: teams who want avatars but find Synthesia's plans restrictive.
  • Weakness: still avatar-first, still not an ad workflow. See HeyGen alternatives.

3. Arcads — best AI actors for ads

Where Synthesia gives you a corporate presenter, Arcads gives you people who look like real creators filming on a phone. That difference matters enormously on TikTok.

  • Best for: creator-style talking-head ads.
  • Weakness: you write the script, and per-video pricing adds up at test volume.
  • Pricing (as of September 2026): ~$110/mo for 10 videos, ~$220/mo for 20 — roughly $11 per clip.

4. Creatify — best URL-to-ad avatar suite

Paste a product URL and get avatar-led ads with the product cut in. A genuine advertising workflow around the avatar idea.

  • Best for: volume variant testing where a presenter fronts the ad.
  • Weakness: product rendering is secondary to the presenter.
  • Pricing (as of September 2026): free tier (10 credits), ~$39/mo Starter (100 credits), ~$99/mo Pro (300 credits).

5. Captions — best budget creator-style option

Cheap, fast, mobile-first. Good for subtitles, quick edits and creator-style output.

  • Best for: solo founders on a tight budget.
  • Weakness: shallow on ad structure and product fidelity.

6. Higgsfield — best for cinematic brand video

If what you liked about Synthesia was "polished video without a shoot", but you want cinematic rather than corporate, this is the direction.

7. Synthesia itself — keep it for training and internal comms

Worth saying plainly: for onboarding videos, compliance training, product documentation and multilingual internal comms, Synthesia is still one of the best tools money can buy. The mistake is stretching it into paid social.

  • Pricing (as of September 2026): free tier (10 min/month, watermarked); Starter ~$29/mo monthly ($18/mo billed annually); Creator $89/mo ($64/mo annually, ~30 min/month plus personal avatars); Enterprise custom.

Minutes vs creatives: the unit mismatch

This is the single clearest reason Synthesia frustrates advertisers, and it is worth spelling out.

A Synthesia Starter plan at roughly 10 minutes a month sounds generous until you translate it into ads. A TikTok creative is 8 to 15 seconds. Ten minutes is therefore around 40 to 75 ads — except you will never get near that, because minutes are consumed by renders, and finding a winning hook means rendering the same idea five different ways.

Meanwhile the plan is priced for a training team producing a handful of long, carefully-scripted videos. You are paying for the wrong shape of consumption.

Ad tools meter per creative for exactly this reason. Testing is the workflow, not an accident of it. We wrote about the economics in what an AI video ad really costs.

Verdict by use case

You make training, onboarding or internal comms video. Stay on Synthesia. Nothing here replaces it for that job.

You run paid social for an e-commerce brand. Product-led beats presenter-led for physical goods. Klaivo generates the script, keeps your actual product on screen via image-to-video, and prices in creatives rather than minutes.

Your ad needs a human face. Arcads for realism, Creatify for volume. Both understand advertising in a way avatar platforms built for corporate video do not.

You need multilingual versions. Synthesia and HeyGen are genuinely strong here. Klaivo generates voiceover in your chosen language, but avatar platforms have a deeper translation feature set.

You are unsure whether your ad should be product-led or presenter-led. Test both — that is the entire point of running creative at volume. Our guide to video ad structure covers when each wins.
