In short — Sora is gone. OpenAI announced the discontinuation on 24 March 2026, shut the web and mobile apps on 26 April 2026, and removes the API on 24 September 2026. If Sora sat inside an ad workflow, you have weeks, not months. The honest replacement depends on what you were using it for: raw cinematic footage (Runway, Higgsfield, Kling), or finished video ads (Klaivo, Creatify, Arcads). Most advertisers discover they were never really buying footage — they were buying a shortcut to a publishable ad, and Sora only ever did the first 20% of that job.
Disclosure: Klaivo is our product. We've tried to be fair — every tool below has real strengths, and all pricing is public and dated. Verify current prices on each vendor's site, as offers change often.
What actually happened to Sora
The timeline is not ambiguous, and it comes from OpenAI's own documentation:
| Date | What changed |
|---|---|
| 24 March 2026 | Discontinuation announced; developers notified of API deprecation |
| 26 April 2026 | Sora web and mobile apps shut down |
| 24 September 2026 | Videos API and Sora 2 model aliases removed |
If you still have content in Sora, OpenAI directs users to export it from the sunset page before access ends. If you have production code calling the Videos API, it stops working on 24 September — this is a hard removal, not a soft deprecation.
Two consequences matter for advertisers:
- Anything built on the Sora 2 API needs a new provider before late September. That includes agencies who wired Sora into internal creative tooling.
- Tools that bundled Sora 2 have had to re-shuffle their model line-ups. If a vendor's pricing page still advertises "Sora 2 included", check when that page was last updated before you buy.
Why "Sora alternative" is the wrong question for most advertisers
Sora was a video model. It turned a prompt into a beautiful clip. That is genuinely hard, and Sora was very good at it.
But a video model is not an ad. Between "nice clip" and "creative you can put behind ad spend" sits the work that actually decides performance:
- a hook in the first 1.5 seconds,
- a script structured to sell (AIDA, PAS, problem/solution),
- a voiceover in your customer's language,
- your product, accurately on screen — not a plausible-looking approximation,
- cuts, music and pacing that hold attention,
- a vertical export ready for TikTok, Reels and Meta.
Sora did none of that. Neither do most of the tools people reach for as replacements. So the useful split is: are you replacing the model, or the job?
The 7 best alternatives
1. Klaivo — best for turning a product into a finished ad
Klaivo is not a video model — it orchestrates several. AI agents write the ad script (AIDA or PAS), break it into shots, generate each shot through the model you pick, add voiceover and music, then assemble the ad. You start from a product URL, a photo, or a plain description.
- Best for: e-commerce, DTC and media buyers who need publishable creatives, not footage.
- Models: 13, including Veo 3.1 (Lite/Fast/Pro), Seedance 2.0 and Kling 3.0 — so a single model being deprecated does not strand you. That is precisely the lesson of the Sora sunset.
- Weakness: if you want frame-level directorial control over a cinematic sequence, a creative suite will serve you better.
- Pricing (as of September 2026): $19/mo (100 credits), $49/mo (260), $99/mo (560). 7-day free trial on Starter monthly. A 5-second shot is ~15 credits; a complete 3-shot ad from a URL is around 50.
2. Runway — best like-for-like creative replacement
The closest thing to "Sora, but still available". Gen-4 quality is strong, and Runway is a full creative suite rather than a single generate button.
- Best for: filmmakers, creative directors, and teams who want editorial control.
- Weakness: same gap as Sora — you get shots, not ads. No script agent, no ad structure, no product-URL path.
- Pricing (as of September 2026): Free (125 one-time credits), Standard ~$15/mo monthly (625 credits/mo), Pro ~$35/mo (2,250), Max ~$95/mo (9,500). Annual billing is meaningfully cheaper. Runway replaced its old Unlimited plan with Max in 2026.
3. Higgsfield — best model buffet
Aggregates multiple frontier models under one subscription, with a large library of camera presets and lip-sync. Popular with people who liked Sora's output quality but want choice.
- Best for: cinematic experimentation across several models.
- Weakness: built for footage, not campaigns. Credits burn fast on premium models. See our full Higgsfield alternatives comparison.
- Pricing: tiered subscriptions with a watermarked free tier. Verify the current model line-up before subscribing — bundles changed after the Sora sunset.
4. Kling 3.0 — best raw quality per dollar
Kling has quietly become one of the strongest generators available, with native audio on several variants and good motion coherence.
- Best for: teams comfortable working directly with a model and doing their own edit.
- Weakness: it is a model, not a workflow. You bring the script, the voice and the edit.
- Note: Kling is also one of the models available inside Klaivo, so you can use it without building an integration.
5. Creatify — best URL-to-UGC suite
Paste a product URL, get avatar-led UGC-style ads at volume. A genuine ad tool, unlike the four above.
- Best for: high-volume UGC-style variant testing.
- Weakness: avatar-centric. If you need your physical product rendered accurately rather than a presenter holding something similar, this is the wrong shape. More in Creatify alternatives.
- Pricing (as of September 2026): free tier with 10 credits, ~$39/mo Starter (100 credits), ~$99/mo Pro (300 credits).
6. Arcads — best AI-actor realism
The most convincing AI presenters on the market. Script-first: you write the lines, actors deliver them.
- Best for: creator-style talking-head ads where the human is the ad.
- Weakness: priced per finished video, which gets expensive at test volume, and you still write the script. See Arcads alternatives.
- Pricing (as of September 2026): ~$110/mo for 10 videos, ~$220/mo for 20, roughly $11 per clip. Discounts are frequently running.
7. Veo 3.1 — best for native audio out of the box
Google's model generates synchronised audio natively, which removes a whole editing step.
- Best for: single hero shots where dialogue and ambience must feel real.
- Weakness: fixed 8-second durations and, again, no ad workflow around it.
- Note: available inside Klaivo in Lite, Fast and Pro variants.

Verdict by use case
You used Sora for cinematic shots and you edit them yourself. Go to Runway or Higgsfield. You are replacing a model with a model, and both are more capable creative environments than Sora ever was.
You used Sora to make ads. Replacing it with another generator recreates the same bottleneck: you will still write the hook, record a voice, and edit. Use a tool that does the whole job — Klaivo, Creatify or Arcads depending on whether your ad centres on your product or on a presenter.
You had Sora wired into production code. You have until 24 September 2026. Prioritise a provider with more than one model behind it, so the next deprecation is a config change rather than a migration.
Your ads centre on a physical product. Product fidelity is the deciding factor, and it is where text-to-video models are weakest — they render something that looks like your item rather than your item. Image-to-video is the right tool; we wrote up why image-to-video keeps your product accurate.
The real lesson of the Sora sunset
A single-model dependency is a business risk. Sora was, for a while, the most talked-about video model in the world, backed by the best-funded lab in the field — and advertisers who built on it now have a three-week deadline.
The defence is not picking the "right" model. It is keeping the model layer swappable and owning the layer above it: the script, the structure, the product accuracy, the edit. That layer is what actually makes an ad convert, and it is the part that survives every model generation.
That is the bet Klaivo is built on. Thirteen models sit behind the same workflow; when one is deprecated, you change a dropdown.
